I’m an advocate for Outfit Repeating. At the least, definitely piece repeating – having your ol’ reliables to lean back on when you’re having one of those “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR” crises (meanwhile sifting through a closet that could clothe an army). Whether it’s the way the blouse flatters my decolletage or the color of that dress reminds me of the one my Barbie wore, every piece has a story and therefore a personality. Some I get along with better than others… Like the Miu Miu heels and I manage to coexist for short periods of time. But the Anna Sui cardigan? Sew it onto me permanently, please.

I have narrowed my go-tos down to five, and yet two Anna Sui pieces still snuck their way in. Shocker. Beginning with one of the said Suis, my James Coviello for Anna Sui black knit top with flowers and beading along the neckline. This is possibly my favorite thing I own. One time I wore it so much on vacation with my family, my mother tried to politely tell me that she was slightly sick of seeing it. Could never be me…

It was on this same vacation that I found the love of my life, my Rococo purse. Bordered by overlapping laces trims and various ribbons, gemstones, roses, and appliques, and of course, additionally adorned with tassel zipper sliders. You know when you see something and you’re like “Oh, you look like what I would make in my laboratory if I had one. You would be the Rocky Horror to my Frank N. Furter.” No? Just me? Okay. Anyway…

Next on the list is… another Anna Sui piece! Give it up for my brown wool Anna Sui skirt with pink ribbons and fuzzy threading throughout, like a sensory board for toddlers. I bought it on eBay for something fabulous like $25 and the price per wear at this point is even more fabulous. Speaking of fabulous… I later discovered while perusing Vogue Runway, that this skirt was worn by Naomi Campbell as the opening look of Anna Sui’s Fall 2004 show. Bitch stole my look!

Moving on to the one and only purple suede oversized jacket, worn by yours truly almost constantly. The versatility of this jacket never ceases to amaze me. Oversized enough to comfortably fit a cozy sweater underneath but not so heavy that alternatively, a t-shirt wouldn’t make sense. If I were Goldilocks, this would be the perfect porridge.

Now, throwing it back to my teens, my tried-and-true, ride-or-die T.U.K. black suede creepers. I was freshly thirteen when I got my first pair. I wore them to school ONE TIME and people called me Frankenstein. I’m now on my third pair… Don’t know what that says about me and how I wish to be perceived. Most recently, I’ve been dabbling more with my brown creepers and it’s like a whole new world! Sometimes I do feel like I’m cheating on my other black suede pair, the replacements of my crumbling first. But this feeling… it’s so new and exciting… I must explore it more. However, my Black Suede T.U.K. Mondo Creepers will hold a special place in my heart forever, as will all these pieces. My clothes are my babies and every parent has a favorite.
